The thoughts below are unedited. Some might seem controversial to you. In these notes, I’ve tried to seek the truth, even when it made me uncomfortable. In hindsight, I credit much of my success to this mindset of open, unbiased inquiry. While my opinions are strong, they are weakly held. I’m open to adopting other views if they reveal themselves to be truthful.
- Entrepreneur’s mind, athlete’s body, artist’s soul.
- The leader is simply defined as the bravest man.
- You are what you scroll.
- If you don’t communicate, you don’t exist.
- Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.
- High testosterone + high IQ = getting what you want in life. Smart is not enough. You have to be aggressive.
- Money is like health. You worry about it when you don’t have it. Make sure you always do.
- Having stuff isn’t fun, getting stuff is fun.
- You have higher duties than your own happiness.
- You're not depressed, you just don't have a quest.
- Successful people rarely criticize. The boos usually come from the cheap seats.
- Life isn’t happening to you, it’s responding to you.
- You won’t know how to do it until you do it. So don’t think too much. Just do it.
- People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, and confirm their suspicions.
- Independent thinking is dangerous to those who seek to control you. The world rewards obedience but true success requires rebellion.
- To be human is to be socially connected to others. To be able to trust someone of your own species, and sometimes other mammals like dogs. Can your body feel safe enough to be in close proximity to another? The human nervous system involves sociality as a fundamental trait to regulate itself. Socializing (talking out loud) is a mechanism to regulate and soothe the nervous system. It is in fact a fundamental human need. Silence kills.
- Anxiety, gut problems, IBS, chronic stress are emergent properties of an unregulated autonomic nervous system that is stuck in defense. This mode constantly eats up metabolic resources in a very inefficient way. It’s like a Star Trek ship always having its energy shield on, depleting its resources. 90% of people I meet are stuck in this mode without knowing it. The evolutionarily newer circuits inhibit the older reptilian ones from going into defense. These circuits are linked to facial expressivity, intonation of voice, etc. Socially connected people are hence biologically healthier because it keeps their nervous system out of defense.
